His father Mr.Ramanathan worked in All India Radio and Press Trust of India. His Mother Pushpa Leela is a housewife. Sarath has a sister Mallika. He did his B.Sc. Maths in New College, Chennai. He married Miss.Saya and has two daughters Varalakshmi and Pooja. He got separated from his first wife. He is a strong fan of Actor M.G.R. , and wanted to act in films. He entered films as a producer. He produced his first film “Kan Simitum Neram”. He is a sports lover and has a separate sports club to encourage sports activities among the youth. He received “Mr. Madras” title for his unique Body building. It paved way for his acting career in films. He again got married to actress Radhika and has two children, Step daughter Reyaan and son Rahul Sarath. He did a different tonsured head role in Suriyan. It was this movie which fetched him more challenging roles. His continuous success in Cheran Pandian, Katta Bomman, Naataamai, Surya Vamsam, etc. gave him the Supreme Star title. His fame in films helped him in politics. He is the founder and president of his political party (A.I.S.K). He has established a hospital in Coimbatore, to provide free medical treatment for poor people. He has also adopted a social organization called Sharanalayam near Pollachi to take care of destitute and unfortunate children. He formed a trust in his father’s name to render monetary help to poor for education. Sharath has done fabulous roles in movies like Mayee, Vedan, and Natpukaka.
