Biography
Ramaswamy Ganesan was born on 17th November 1920 in Pudhukottai, Tamil Nadu. He was the only son of the Ramaswamy - Gangamma couple. He went to school on a horse back preceded by a band of music. He did his Secondary Schooling in RajaĆ¢€™s College Pudhukottai. He graduated B.Sc. in Madras Christian College. He married Miss Alamelu in 1940. His personal life continued with more marriages with actress Pushpavalli, actress Savithri, and Julianna. He has seven daughters Dr. Muthulakshmi, Dr. Kamala Selvaraj, Miss Vijayachamundeeswari, Miss Rekha, Mrs. Narayani, Dr. Revathi Sankaran, Mrs. Radha Osmansyed and Dr.Jaya Shreedhar and a son Satheesh Kumar.
He worked as a lecturer of Chemistry in Madras Christian College. He later he worked as a casting Director in Gemini Studios. His Tamil debut film was Miss Malini. His Villain role in Thai Ullam gave recognition. His film Manam Pol Mangalyam upgraded him as a hero. His handsome features, dashing personality, and impish humor proved an irresistible combination. He was the greatest lover on Tamil screen making hearts flutter. His noted films Kanavane Kan Kanda Deivam, Kalyaana Parisu, Then Nilavu, and more, claimed him the nickname Kaadal Manan.
His film Naan Avan Illai was produced by him. He switched to different roles in films Unnal Mudiyum Thambi and Avvai Shanmughi. A long career of five decades, he had acted in more than 200 films in all South Indian languages. This legend of cinema came to an end on 22nd March 2005 due to renal and organ failure. He received Padmashri in 1971. He received Kalaimamani Award, M.G.R. Gold Medal Award, and Screen Life Time Achievement Award. He received the Best Actor Award for Kaaviya Thalaivi.
