Biography

One of the Top directors of Tamil Film Industry, Pandiarajan was born on 2nd October 1959 in Saidapet, Chennai. His father K.Rathnam worked as a driver in Pallavan Transport Corporation, Chennai. His mother K.Sulochana is a housewife. He has two sisters Geetha and Malliga. He had his schooling in Government School, Saidapet. During his school days, he won a medal for his performance in the stage drama. He completed M.A., M. Phil. in history with a topic related on Tamil Cinema.

He joined Thamizisai College, Annamalai Mandram where he learnt violin and got his diploma as \"Isai Selvam\" in 1977. He initially worked in a nail factory for a salary of Rs.75. He joined writer Thooyavan as an office assistant, where he met director K. Bhagyaraj and later joined him as an assistant director. He became his Associate director in the film Darling Darling Darling, and worked with him till the story discussion of the film Mundanai Mudichu.

He started his career as a Director in the Tamil film Kanni Raasi in 1985. The film had a normal down to earth story base line revolving around the superstitious beliefs of astrology. He got married to Vasuki daughter of Director, Producer, and Poet Avinasi Mani. They have three sons Prithvirajan (actor), Pallavarajan, and Premraajan.

He made his debut in acting as a second hero in film Aan Paavam, which was his own direction. He acted along with actors V.K.Ramaswamy, Pandian, Seetha, and Revathi. His rib tickling comic antics and apt dialogue delivery made him the man of masses. He became famous for his “owl-like” sideway looks in modern Tamil cinema. He played a perfect role of a jobless bachelor in the Tamil film Kathanayakan with actor S.Ve.Sekhar.

He gave a remarkable performance in hilarious hit film Paatti Sollai Thattadhey with the legendary actress Manorama. In the film Mouna geedham, he has done mimicry for 21 voices. His melodrama film Oora Therinjikittaen became a sensational hit. He acted in the Malayalam hit film Kathavaseshan, with actor Dileep. Slices of situational humor and a common mans down to earth look at the world around him are part and parcel of his films. After a long hibernation, this talented star exhibited his fine subtle villain role in the film Anjathey and won many accolades for his brilliant portrayal. He has directed nearly nine films, including Kaivantha Kalai, and acted in some 90 Tamil films. Apart from his acting and direction skills, he is an excellent Writer, Music Director, Copy writer, and a Violinist.

He was titled Pudumai Kalai Mannan by D.M.K. political party during one of poet Bharathidasans Birthday Celebrations. He has written books Thaedal and Thookkam varadha bhodhu. He received awards like Best Newcomer award from Cinema Express for Aan Paavam, Best Dialogue Writer award from Dinakaran for Gopala Gopala, and Best Dialogue Writer award from Dinakaran for Kaalam Maari Pocchu.
